Joyce's Piano Lessons La Grande, Oregon

what students are saying about the studio meeting their expectations

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"I like the way you explain everything."~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"I like the way your lessons address all learning styles with hearing, writing and doing. Starting piano as an adult is a little tough at first because it is difficult to slow down and not be able to do elaborate things at the piano like you wish you could. Its like going up steps slowly when you really want to run."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Looking ahead when I first started, I am playing things I thought were real hard"~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  "I am amazed at where my daughter is now! She can read simple music, has an understanding of quarter notes, half notes, dotted half notes...just to get started. I have seen her self-esteem go up just in the short time we've had lessons. Plus - she's excited about sharing her knowledge with her friends"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~            "Mrs. Hoke is very good with kids.  She is very patient and listens well to the student. The students get positive reinforcement and are never talked down to.  The curriculum is very good for the age and doesn't intimidate the child. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What students are saying about what they like best about piano lessons
"I have learned lots of stuff I never learned before"
"the thing I like best is that I am learning so much and that I am always being challenged"
"being able to go at my own pace"
"that it's fun"
"playing for people"
"getting prizes"
"earning piano dollars to buy toys"
"learning new songs from Mrs. Hoke"
"learning how to read music"
What Students are saying about ideas for the piano studio
"Perhaps getting together with the other adults,
possible playing a piece, and if we can share that
we get nervous, it could possible help us understand
why"
"Students tell the teacher something at the next lesson from their theory (something they learned) without looking at the theory book - you would get 2 stickers if you can do this"
 "Composition contest" - anyone else interested?
"Teach more about music history"
 "Maybe a coloring contest"
"Mrs. Hoke write her own songs for students to play"
 "A contest for writing an original song.  Actually writing it out and playing it.  It would be an individual contest like the honor roll"
"Maybe a contest to a certain amount of hours like 1000 or 10,000. Like the honor roll where everyone can achieve it if they want (not just 1 winner)"
 "How about getting all your piano students together for a potluck (in a building) or picnic at the park. So they can get to know each other.  Maybe share piano experiences. Some type of informal gathering for adult and kid students and possible families"
 Ideas for prizes:
"Walmart certificate cards that can be bought with piano dollars or Hobby Habbit certificates that can be bought with piano dollars"
"I recommend Mrs. Hoke to be the best piano teacher in La Grande for her outstanding job on working with my daughter.  She teaches my daughter how to read notes and learn how to play new songs.  It is so exciting to see my daughter get excited about playing new songs.  She (Mrs. Hoke) makes it fun with the piano dollars too, which you earn from practicing new songs. You can spend them on goodies at the piano store. She doesn't just teach my daughter about music but she makes my daughter feel like she can be the best piano student.  Good job Mrs. Hoke
Letters of Recommendation:
January 24, 2006
My daughter started taking piano lessons back in September 2004 from Joyce Hoke with
Joyful Sounds and I could not be more pleased with how she has progressed.
Joyce makes learning to lay both fun and challenging at the same time.  My daughter truly
enjoys playing the piano and I do not even have to remind her to practice.
I am very impressed with how far she has come since her first lesson and I highly
recommend Joyce Hoke to anyone who is looking for an excellent piano teacher.
To Whom This May Concern
Date of letter:  January 10, 2006
We highly recommend Joyce Hoke for a piano teacher.  Joyce has taught our son
for about two years.
  She has a way of encouraging our son to reach his goals.
Joyce makes learning fun by using prizes, stickers, piano dollars and pizza parties.
Our son is extremely sensitive. Joyce was quick to realize this and make him feel comfortable.
Our son is very excited about his weekly class with Joyce.
  He says, “we have so much
fun together.” She keeps parents informed of student progress through use of an
assignment book, which also help them achieve their goals.
To Whom It May Concern:
The purpose of this letter is to convey to you how wonderful Joyce Hoke
has been as our children's piano teacher. Joyce taught piano to our two
children for 19 months. In their words, "she is very encouraging and positive
during lessons." Joyce's system of stickers and prizes motivated them to
achieve. And her individual goal setting to earn trophies and medals kept
them moving forward.
Our two children have very different personalities: one is quiet
and he other very extroverted. Joyce worked great with each of them.
We are very pleased to have had Joyce as our children's
first piano teacher. She laid a solid foundation for our children
to continue their study of piano.
We highly recommend Joyce Hoke as a piano teacher!
